Accident Overview
On November 13, 2014, at 6:28 p.m., our client was driving westbound on Delaware Street in the city of Berkeley, county of Alameda, state of California, when another driver hit his bicycle smashing him to the pavement. The accident resulted in the loss of work, serious injuries, and large medical bills leaving our client in a state of uncertainty.
About the Accident
This was an auto versus bicycle accident that resulted in serious injuries to our client due to the other driver’s negligence. The driver of the car that caused the accident was driving a 2006 Acura TL. There were no adverse road conditions.
After the accident our client suffered from aches and pains, and a mild concussion. Our client was transported by the City of Berkeley Ambulance to Highland Hospital in Oakland where he underwent treatment for his concussion and bumps and bruises. The driver of the car that caused the accident was insured by Geico insurance.
Case Facts
Our client needed ongoing medical treatment after the accident, including physical therapy. Based on this information he reached out to GJEL Accident Attorneys to see if he was entitled to compensation and to have his questions answered. He wanted to know:
- Who is responsible for my medical bills?
- How will I pay these bills and the loss of work?
- What if I have permanent lifelong damage to my body?
The staff at GJEL Accident Attorneys were able to quickly evaluate the case over the phone and send a staff member to his home.
Based on the serious injuries from this accident and the mounting medical bills, our client decided to retain GJEL Accident Attorneys to help get his life back on track after this tragic accident.
The staff at GJEL started a full investigation which started with getting the police report from the Berkeley Police Department. The police report showed that the other driver was 100% at fault and responsible for the accident.
At first, the adverse insurance company, Geico, accepted their driver’s version of the accident. However, after 9 months of work-up, they conceded that the accident was the fault of their driver.
Attorney Jim Larsen helped our client through this difficult time. This case took approximately nine months to settle including litigation. In the end, our client was awarded $100,000 for this accident by Geico after aggressive representation.
