If you’re anything like me, you’re looking forward to Memorial Day, if only to enjoy a rare three day weekend. It’s the perfect weekend to pack up and find an adventure in the mountains, enjoy family and friends, and get out of town. The only problem is, everyone else has the same idea.
So with the roads unusually crowded this weekend, GJEL Accident Attorneys urges all drivers to take extra precautions to avoid car accidents. Holiday weekends are notorious for bottleneck traffic and late-night impaired driving. Whether you’re going on a camping trip, day hikes, or a Bar-B-Que with friends, keep safety in mind as your first priority. And in case you have the misfortune of getting into an accident, download the GJEL Car Accident Preparedness PDF, which details the most important steps to take directly following an accident.
“Memorial Day marks the launch of summer driving season and with that season typically come more accidents,” says GJEL Managing Partner Andy Gillin. Summer even matches the winter months in total number of accident fatalities and driving injuries. Vehicle accidents between the months June and September account for more than a third of the year’s fatal collisions according to data from the California Highway Patrol. And nearly 10,000 passengers are injured in alcohol involved accidents in the summer.
“Immediately following a collision, a large percentage of people panic and are unsure what to do,” Andy Gillin continues. “GJEL Accident Attorneys has created this on-the-scene accident checklist as a guide for drivers of all ages.” We urge you to download the checklist and keep it in your glove box for future reference if you are involved in a future accident.
Have a fantastic and safe Memorial Day Weekend!
